Lake Victoria Management Project (LVEMP II) is an East African Community (EAC) Project, coordinated by Lake Victoria Basin Commission and implemented by National Project Implementing Offices in the 5 Partner States. The project is over-sighted the Regional Policy Steering Committee (RPSC) at regional level.
Project Objectives
- to improve collaborative management of the trans-boundary natural resources of the Lake Victoria Basin among the EAC Partner States;
- to improve environmental management of targeted pollution hotspots and selected degraded sub-catchments for the benefit of communities who depend on natural resources of the Lake Victoria Basin.

- Strengthening institutional capacity for managing shared water and fisheries resources;
- point source pollution control and prevention

Project Achievements
The achievements below are not exhaustive. The outline below provides a few highlights:
- A total of 335,212 people have been provided with access to improved sanitation facilities under the project in the five EAC Partner States as of 2016;
- To curb down fatal accidents and incidents on Lake Victoria, over 37 sites have been installed with Aids to navigation in the 3 EAC Partner States–Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
- At least 396 industries have been trained in pollution control and prevention by the LVEMP II. There is proximate linkage between quality of Lake Victoria Waters and use of appropriate technologies in the 5 EAC Partner States;
- In pursuit of the above, at least 181 industries in the Lake Victoria Basin have adopted Cleaner Production Technologies;
- The project has promoted Community Driven Development Initiatives (CDDs) to spur livelihoods through their own prioritized interventions. A total of 704 CDDs have been supported (2016)
- At least 20,217 hectors of land have been improved through Sustainable Land Management practices in the wider LVB.
- A total of 741,348 people have been directly benefited from LVEMP II interventions since its inception.
