Dr. Matano Took Over From Dr. Kanangire as LVBC Executive Secretary

Dr. Ally-Said Matano former Programs Officer–Projects Development and Partnerships for Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) took over from Canisius Kanangire who has headed the institution since 2011.

 

The official handover took place at LVBC main hall  on May, 31st 2016 and it was witnessed by staff. On June, 17th 2016, in East African Community’s Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, Dr Matano took the oath of Allegiance before the Secretary General of the East African Community Secretariat, Ambassador Liberat Mfumukenko.

 

By taking Oath of Allegiance, Dr Ally Said Matano, a Kenyan national, will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the East African Community,  preserve, protect and defend the Treaty for the establishment of the East African Community as by law established.

 

Dr. Matano promised building on the achievements of the outgoing Executive Secretary, strengthen synergy and take LVBC to higher levels through teamwork.  “Through teamwork, we shall put all feet into the shoes of the outgoing Executive Secretary,” amidst applauses, Dr. Matano told highly spirited LVBC staff. 

 

Dr Canisius Kanangire (Rwandan) who steered the institution since 2011, outlined his achievements: “making LVBC more responsive, relevant and improving the livelihoods of East African citizens through programmes and projects implemented by LVBC.”

 

In his hand-over speech, the out-going Executive Secretary applauded the support he received from the Sectoral Council of Ministers for Lake Victoria Basin (SECOM), Regional Policy Steering Committee (RPSC), Development Partners and LVBC staff.

 

Dr. Matano’s appointment was endorsed by the 33rd Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers that took place on 27th May 2016 in Arusha, Tanzania. This was after his appointment was approved by the Sectoral Council of Ministers for the Lake Victoria Basin.

 

LVBC is a specialized Institution of the East African Community responsible for coordinating the sustainable development agenda of the Lake Victoria Basin, with its Headquarters located in Kisumu, Kenya. The post of Executive Secretary rotates amongst the five Partner States
