The newly appointed Executive Secretary for the Lake Victoria Basin commission (LVBC) Dr. Masinde Kahitira Bwire has expressed confidence in the delivery of development agenda during the five years of his leadership tenure at the Commission.
Speaking during the media briefing at the 21st Sectoral Council of Ministers for Lake Victoria meeting (SECOM) in Kisumu, Republic of Kenya. Dr. Bwire was also able to give his plans for his five-year tenure as he assumed office officially on the 2nd of May, 2022. “For the coming five years that I will be managing the Commission, we have highlighted priorities in all six program areas that will be implemented and they are all stipulated within the 4th Strategic Plan 2021-2026,” Bwire stated.
The six program areas include – climate change actions, environmental and natural resource management, integrated water resource management and development (IWRM&D), the Lake Victoria Basin Maritime Transport, Safety and Security on Lake Victoria, Social Development Program, Investment Promotion and Blue Economy Development in LVB and Strengthening the Institution and Coordination Capacity of the LVB and the Partner States
He also added that he will be managing the challenges that are currently facing the Lake Victor Basin including climate change, environmental degradation, integrated water management issues, quality assurance, teamwork and efficient delivery of work within the Commission among the priorities.
The Executive Secretary further indicated that with a very dedicated team and experienced personnel, he will achieve the commitments derived from the Commission’s Strategic plan.
Dr. Masinde Kahitira Bwire previously served the LVBC in the capacity of Regional Project Coordinator for Adapting to Climate Change in Lake Victoria Basin Project and takes over from Dr. Ali Saidi Matano.
The Sectoral Council of Ministers for Lake Victoria Basin (LVB-SECOM) is the Governing body of Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC). SECOM mandated to provide overall policy guidance to the Commission as stipulated in Article 35 of the Protocol for Sustainable Development of Lake Victoria Basin.
