21st Sectoral Council of Ministers to Take Place from 2nd-6th May, 2022, Kisumu, Kenya.

The 21st Meeting of the Sectoral Council of Ministers for Lake Victoria Basin (LVB-SECOM) is set to take place from 2nd – 6th May 2022 at the Imperial Hotel in Kisumu, Republic of Kenya.

The meeting is expected to consider the implementation status of previous decisions and directives of the LVB-SECOM; 4th LVBC Strategic Plan (2021-2026), the report of the 9th Joint Regional Policy Steering Committee (RPSC) meeting.

Also in consideration will be the report of Finance, Administration and Institutional Matters of LVBC and the overall progress made from January 2020 to March 2022. The meeting will be held through the sessions of technical staff from the relevant sectoral Ministries, Principal and Permanent Secretaries and the Ministers from EAC Partner States within Lake Victoria Basin.

The Sectoral Council of Ministers for Lake Victoria Basin (LVB-SECOM) is the Governing body of Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) mandated to provide overall policy guidance and oversight of the Commission as stipulated in Article 35 of the Protocol for Sustainable Development of Lake Victoria Basin.

The 21st Meeting of the SECOM had been planned for April 2020 and did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on tabled and presented reports, the Ministerial session generates and provide decisions and directives to guide institutional management, coordination of regional programmes and projects and implementations in the EAC Partner States within the basin.

The 21st SECOM is expected to usher in new leadership specifically the Executive Secretary and the Deputy Executive Secretary. Based on current and future operating context, Kisumu SECOM is expected to deliberate on each planned agenda item any other matter with policy implication on Sustainable Management and Development in Lake Victoria Basin.
